When you're told you have cancer, a tornado spins into action in your head. You stop hearing what the doctor has to say. "I have cancer," you keep repeating. You can't think about anything else for days or weeks. In his book, Dr. Marks explains this very serious, sometimes deadly disease in the same manner as if he were talking to you in his office—with a six-hour appointment and no interruptions. He explains every detail of the disease, it's progress, and all the methods of treatment so you're not left wondering, "What's next?" I went into the book a pretty scared (old) dude, as I'd been diagnosed with a "very aggressive, high grade cancer," with a Gleason score of 9 (if you don't know what a Gleason score is, the book tells you). Dr. Marks' explanations calmed me a bit, and gave me the needed information to listen to my doctor and really understand my position. The book delves into all forms of treatment, their side effects, and the reasons to do one over another. By reading through it all, I was able to talk treatment options over with my doctor in a more objective frame of mind. I can't recommend this book any higher—if you're concerned about prostate cancer for yourself or someone else, you can't get a better reference.
