Hi this is Famous Dave Anderson, America's Rib King...I live in Hayward Wisconsin home of the Sky Blue Waters or as us locals know it "God's Country" where a phone call to God is just a local call. We have had extraordinary rainfalls this year and just a week ago had over 12 inches of rain which caused havoc and the Governor declaring northern Wisconsin a federal disaster area. We've never have had so much standing water which is the best favorable environment for mosquitoes. We bought 3 of these for around our cabins not knowing what to think and we're absolutely amazed how these Skeeter Vacs just clear the area of all mosquitoes. The key is to have them going all the time where they kill the females and this Skeeter Vac does the job several ways. It attracts them and zaps them and they also get stuck or they get sucked up...best of all they're dead and gone! We absolutely love these Skeeter Vacs and highly recommend them![[ASIN:B000A0Y8QC SkeeterVac Fine Tune Biting Insect Lure, Replacements] This machine with it's companion products is top of the line mosquito warfare!! We've used it now for three years, replacing the lure and the sticky material only four times. Our mosquito problem, which was huge, has ended. The machine is quiet and easy to move from place to place so we can cover the front yard, side yard and back yard. Can't ask for more than that!!Also, we have some heavy rains here, and the vac just keeps on doing it's job. It stores well in the sub-zero winters (just in an old shed) and starts right up in the spring. Simple to run. Parts are a bit expensive (for us), but well worth it. Don't know how we enjoyed summer without it!Also, when our machine would not restart at the beginning of a new season, the company spent at least 1/2 hr. on the phone with my husband helping him find out what the problem was, and then sent us the part that had gone bad. And they were nice people!!The skeeters must love it as it's effective in luring those little buggers to their deaths. I gave the SkeeterVac I bought to my sister as I just don't have enough of the insects to make it worthwhile to use but she lives in the Sacramento area and apparently is quite a tasty snack for the skeeters. Since using this (the SkeetVac covers 1/2 acre) in her small backyard, she is no longer bothered by the insects and is very happy with it. As a matter of fact, her neighbors mentioned to her that they hadn't seen as many mosquitoes at night and were wondering why until she told them what she was using. The effectiveness of the bait soon fades (In as little as a few days). I remove the bait and store it in a baggie when mosquitos are not present during the day (Where I live). I have also found that by cutting away the top section of the bait station and mixing the hard waxy product around a bit, the effectiveness is once again optimal for a few more days. Doing this is not recommended unless you are vigilant to ensure the product does not come in contact with skin, etc.If you just leave the bait in the unit I find you need 2-3 per each tank exchange for optimum effectiveness and it can get expensive (up to around 60 dollars every 20 days) just for fuel and the baits, excluding any other add-ons you may choose to purchase.Keep it fresh. I think these are a little pricy but they work. I tried a substitute and found it to not be as effective and we were getting bit. I use this lure and OCTENOL3 for the one two combination which allows us to enjoy our back yard again. In fact my neighbour loves this system so much that he has offered to pay for the propane because it does both our yards so well. This is the best system on the market. We live on the St Johns river in St Augustine (NE Florida) and haven't seen a mosquito in four years. It gets rid if all biting insect (except deer flies, unfortunately, as these can take a divot out of exposed skin). But no house flies, horse flies, mosquitoes, or biting gnats ever bother us.I've ran this unit continuously for about a month. While it does get some mosquitoes, it does not eliminate the vast majority. In fact, I can sit 5 feet away from it after it has been running, and in a few minutes I get swarmed. My understanding is, there are several different species of mosquito, and they are attracted to different things. After studying the unit in action, it is my conclusion that it is not effective on the type of mosquitoes in my area, central western Idaho.I would still recommend it, though, because it does catch some mosquitos, and for the price, it beats swatting them all.Has dramatically reduced the mosquito population in our back yard. I spent an evening on the patio in my shorts and T shirt and didn't have any bites. Last year I would have had a dozen. It does go through a tank of propane in about 21 days but it is well worth having the area cleared of mosquitos.
